Akosua Busia is a Ghanaian actress, film director, author, and songwriter. She co-starred in the film The Color Purple.
She is the daughter of Naa Morkor and political leader and academic Kofi Abrefa Busia, who was Prime Minister of Ghana, from 1 October, 1969 to 13 January, 1972. Her father was born a Bono prince, in the traditional kingdom of Wenchi, Brong Ahafo Region, one of the four Gold Coast Territories; the territory was then under British rule, and is now Ghana. Her father’s government was overthrown in 1972, while he was in England on a medical check-up; he spent the rest of his life there. She is a sister of writer, poet, feminist, lecturer, and diplomat Abena Busia.
Akosua has a daughter with her former husband, late American film director John Singleton.
