Multi-platinum alt-pop trio Echosmith hardly need any introduction, as the three-piece are back in full force with the release of their self-titled album. With this album, Sydney, Noah and Graham Sierota embrace the multifaceted messiness, struggles, and beauty of life. It’s clear throughout the 12-tracks that the hard work and dedication put into the album has paid off.

Sydney Sierota from the Echosmith took time out of her day to answer a couple of questions for CelebMix – you can read the entire transcript of the interview at the bottom of this post – upon the release of the band’s self-titled album. Reflecting on the process, Sydney expressed to CelebMix her gratitude for the rewarding journey, filled with necessary growing pains. With a sense of excitement and freedom, Sydney felt good about finally letting the album out into the world.

“It feels so rewarding to reflect on this whole process because it took a lot of hard steps to get here, but really necessary growing pains.” — Sydney Sierota

Through the creative process of the album, the members learned valuable lessons about themselves and their motivations; discovered the importance of understanding why they do what they do, which has empowered them to move forward with greater confidence. Sydney continues, “I think as we started this new era, we were asking ourselves a lot, why are we doing this? And I think asking yourself the hard questions of why can really help you feel stronger as you move forward, because if you don’t really know why you’re doing it, and you’re just doing it, because it’s what you’ve always done or that’s what people say you should do, then you’re not going to feel fully confident as you move forward as you feel the growing pains of taking the next step”

The emotional depth of the album has been influenced by personal experiences and challenges faced leading up to the album’s release. Taking creative control and making important changes allowed the band to find their voice and tell their stories authentically. This album captures the band’s entire evolution as artists and individuals, showcasing their journey of self-discovery and growth.

“We really chose to dive deeper on this album for a lot of reasons, but even the fact that we are now releasing this music independently has really influenced how we’re doing everything, Sydney says. “So, I mean, there’s been a lot that’s led up to this point, including label regime changes and feeling like we kind of got lost in the process of making music and started to almost lose our love for it. I think it took all those hard things to really wake us up and make us realize that we wanted to make a change and we needed to make a change in order to still love what we do and be able to pour our heart into it.”

One of the standout tracks on the album is “Sour”, which is a song that explores the complexities of maintaining a long-distance relationship. The heartfelt and personal lyrics take listeners on a journey through Sydney’s emotions, frustrations, and eventual epiphany about what truly matters. “Sour” is a song that many people can relate to, and its authenticity adds to its power.

““Sour” really talks about so many different aspects of a relationship, especially when you’re long-distance and you don’t have all the things that you want, at the same time, Sydney explains. “I think it’s a really cool song because it takes you on that journey of here I am, these are my frustrations, these are the things I’m really scared about and what can happen in the future if we keep going down this path and don’t make a change in order to be together.”

Throughout the album, Echosmith opens up like never before, baring their souls through their music. They touch on various aspects of life, from relationships to growing up and learning to be adults. The honesty and vulnerability in their songwriting make the music relatable and resonate deeply with listeners.

Sydney continues, “I think when we first started writing this album we were feeling very lost, and I think as we continued to write and record this album we started to find ourselves a little bit more piece by piece.”

“I do feel like I am in a completely different place than I was when we first started this album.” — Sydney Sierota

With this album, the band has managed to include all of their important stories and experiences without leaving anything unsaid. This album feels like a revelation, with every song offering a glimpse into the band’s lives and emotions. It’s fitting that this is a self-titled album, as it truly represents who Echosmith is as artists and individuals.

The band hopes to convey a powerful message to their audience: no matter the season of life, no one is alone, and difficult times don’t last forever. Their music aims to make listeners feel seen, loved, and understood, and the deep dive into honesty and vulnerability accomplishes just that.

The band’s ultimate goal remains the same – to spread love and hope through their music, and this album takes their mission to a whole new level. “The main message that I would love to get across with Echosmith, the album is that no matter what season of life you’re in, you’re not alone, and it doesn’t last forever,” Sydney adds. “I really hope that everyone who listens to this album can really feel seen through it, and seen through the lyrics, because maybe what I’ve gone through in the past couple years isn’t exactly what you have gone through but maybe you’ve had that same feeling, but it’s just a completely different situation.”

As for what’s next, Echosmith is fully immersed in their self-titled album mode, and fans can expect a lot of exciting things in store. The band is committed to connecting with their audience in meaningful ways, both face-to-face and online. Live shows, special events, and more are on the horizon, as they want their music to reach as many people as possible. With a European and UK tour coming up in the fall the band is eager to create unforgettable experiences for their fans and make the album cycle all about fostering a deeper connection with their listeners.

Echosmith’s self-titled album marks a significant moment in the band’s musical journey. This is an album that is authentic and heartfelt, showcasing the band at their best: crafting a collection of songs that resonate with listeners on a personal level. This album is a showcase of their growth, self-discovery, and commitment to spreading love through their music, and it’s a glimpse into their evolution as artists and individuals.
